The Government announced today it is retaining the existing annual MoT test.
It took into account data from Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), which showed a quarter of vehicles tested in 2011 had one or more car defects that were either missed by MOT test centres or incorrectly assessed.
The move was welcomed by Pro-MOTe, the lobby group set up last year to campaign for the retention of annual MOTs. The lobby group had argued that changing the MoT had safety implications for motorists and posed a severe threat to the motor trade in terms of lost business and job cuts.
