Car production rose by 8.5 per cent in November and was up 6.1 per cent over the first eleven months of 2011, according to the SMMT.
UK engine production was ahead 1.7 per cent in November and 5.3 per cent in the year-to-date.
CV output rose by 2.2 per cent in November but was down 2.3 per cent over the January-November period.
“UK vehicle and engine production continues to lead a manufacturing recovery,” said SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt.
Everitt said despite the challenges in the Euro-zone, the UK motor industry expects further growth in 2012.
“Global vehicle manufacturers have committed more than £4bn of investment into the UK motor industry, boosting confidence in the sector and securing high value jobs for the long-term,” he added.
