The AA has launched AA Cars, a used car website that goes head to head with RAC Cars in the online classified market.
The website is a rebranding of VCARS, the established used car platform with added car buying advice and a free 26-point AA Cars History Check for all cars listed.
Every check includes up to £30,000 worth of insurance if the data is wrong.
The site offers dealers access to the AA’s 15 million members and also has a presence on the AA’s own website
Dealer wishing be on the network have to apply to the AA and there is a fee for listing.
The AA said it is taking the risk out of car buying for consumers. It cites an AA/Populus study of 22,194 AA members, which found that one in three UK drivers thinks buying a car is a stressful experience.
AA president Edmund King said: “For dealers, this represents a unique opportunity to associate their business with the trusted AA name.
“For consumers, the AA has simplified car buying by offering a portal that offers access to thousands of cars in their own locality, with the added protection of an up front car data check worth up to £20. The cost is paid by AA Cars and the check is provided free to the consumer”.
At launch AA Cars will present more than 110,000 used cars for sale from over 2,000 dealers throughout the UK.
Paul Davis, CEO of VCARS said the association with the AA was a “significant endorsement” for the work that VCARS has put into the development of its platform.
