Yorkshire-based car retailer JCT600 has reported "record" sales of 632 new and used cars over the past seven days.
The sales were 20 per cent higher than its previous weekly record of 504 new and used sales set in September 2009.
Combination of factors
Sales director Andrew Coulthurst (pictured) said: "It's difficult to pin point exactly what caused this spike, but it's probably a combination of factors including pent-up demand, competitive promotions, new car registrations and even an improvement in the weather.
"We've seen a distinct improvement in sales over the last year, partly helped by the scrappage scheme, and we hope that this uplift is a further indication of a return of consumer confidence."
JCT600 is ranked number 13 in the MT Top200 dealer groups with turnover of £472.6m in the year to December 2008.
