Toyota is expected to recall third generation Prius cars in the US and Japan, according to reports emanating from Japan.
US authorities are looking into complaints affecting the latest model, which went on sale last May. In the UK, Toyota said on Friday its dealers in North America and Japan had notified the carmaker that they had received complaints related to brakes in the current, third generation Prius. It said there had been no reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Braking conditions "Customers have reported that under certain braking conditions, such as when hitting a bump, pothole or driving on a low-grip surface, they notice a change in the brake feel (the sensation transmitted to the driver during a braking action," the statement said. "This change in brake feel is due to the specific set-up of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Not compromised Toyota said Prius's braking ability wsa not compromised and it did not believe it was a safety issue. "However, to deal with the customer comments about the change in brake feel, an update in the software in the brake control system was made on Prius production from late January 2010. Toyota said the change was made to give the driver a "more consistent feel" when applying the brakes. A Toyota UK spokesman today said: There is a lot of speculation. In the next few days we will have something to say." Related Articles
