The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) is lobbying in Europe for a continuation of dealer rights when the current Block Exemption Regulation (BER) is replaced.
The publication of the European Commission's conclusions on the current Regulation is now due in late July. Last week, NFDA director Sue Robinson met Paolo Cesarini, head of Unit 2 at DG Competition and Joanna Szychowska, a member of cabinet of European Commission Vice President Günter Verheugen. Szychowska has responsibility for regulatory policy linked to internal markets. Robinson also met Malcolm Harbour MEP and Marc Greven, legal affairs director at the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (ACEA) Robinson said: "The unfolding economic situation has clearly demonstrated that many of the freedoms offered within the current Block Exemption Regulations are of great value to dealers. "They enable them to provide a rounded service for their customers. I have reinforced in my meetings that the European Commission must consider this when making its conclusions," she said.
