Electrical faults top the list of warranty claims being made on modern cars, according to Mondial Assistance.
The changing profile of warranty claims over the last decade reflects vehicle technological advancements.
More electrical component claims are prevalent today compared to seven or eight years ago and mechanical type claims have fallen out of the top 10 list of warranty claims..
"An example is air conditioning units where analysis of claims data from eight years ago shows claims featuring quite heavily compared to currently where they are far more infrequent," said Mondial Assistance automotive sales director Lee Taylor.
"Back in 2000, air conditioning was still considered a luxury item fitted to luxury cars but today it's pretty much standard fit and as such becomes an item that's tried, tested and developed to ensure it doesn't fail.
"Although the impressive engineering developments within the motor industry have resulted in more robust, reliable vehicles protecting customers from unexpected repair costs, things can still go wrong.
"I-Pod connectors, rear seat entertainment systems and parking assist technology are examples of the great innovations fitted to today's' vehicles, which is why warranties need to evolve too," he said.
