DIAGNOSTIC equipment supplier Sykes Pickavant has developed an electronic fault finder for Vauxhall dealers.

The system compared by Vauxhall to sophisticated aviation diagnostic equipment has been designed for situations where a customer reports a fault which occurs sporadically and is difficult to detect.
The Vehicle Information Processor which costs around £300 can be fitted into the problem car which can then be driven normally.
When the problem occurs, details from the engine management signals including the time and temperature are recorded.
This information can then be retrieved during the car's next visit to the dealer.
It can then be interrogated and analysed by a computer diagnostics programme to identify the area of the fault.
