Toyota training base set for Burnaston

TOYOTA HAS CHOSEN the UK as the location for its new multi-million pound training centre.

The £12m development in Derbyshire will provide production and maintenance training to the employees across Toyota’s European manufacturing operation.
The E-GPC — the European branch of Toyota’s global production centre in Japan — will be located within the grounds of the car maker’s manufacturing plant in Burnaston.
Construction of the 8,000m2 site has already begun and courses will start next January.
The centre will employ 15 teachers and will train up to 1,000 students a year once it is fully functional.
Shinichi Sasaki, president and chief executive of Toyota engineering and manufacturing Europe, said: “Toyota’s European production training centre will play a vital role in ensuring that our manufacturing employees receive the training and development they need to continue to provide our customers with quality vehicles.
“This also continues Toyota’s policy of localisation in Europe, which includes a European design centre, eight manufacturing plants and a dedicated research and development facility.”
According to Toyota the centre will deliver a range of courses using specially developed work stations, simulated production environments and the latest maintenance technology.
The UK plant produces the Avensis and Corolla models and is among eight Toyota manufacturing plants across Europe.
