Ombudsman to take on car dealers

Wednesday, 8 September 2004

A law firm has warned car dealers of a likely influx of complaints when the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) takes over the jurisdiction of consumer credit disputes from April 2006.

Consumer disputes with dealers are currently settled through the court system although the cost and time implications can deter many complainants. “For the first time consumers will have access to an inexpensive and relatively informal method of resolving disputes with their credit providers,” said Garon Anthony, a partner at Pinsents.
