Folz to take ACEA helm

Jean-Martin Folz, chairman of the managing board of PSA Peugeot Citroen, has been elected president of
the European automobile manufacturers association ACEA.


He takes over on 1 January 2002 from Paolo Cantarella, chief executive of Fiat SpA.
Folz takes the helm at one of the most difficult periods the car industry has gone through, with ACEA expected to continue playing a pivotal role in campaigning for the interests of car makers as competition commissioner Mario Monti considers the future of car retailing in Europe.
Folz has has a varied career with a background in engineering, while also holding senior posts I the French civil service. He moved to the private sector in 1978 holding various positions before joining the automotive sector and PSA in 1995, becoming chairman in of the managing board in October 1997.
