PAOLO Cantarella has begun his second year as president of Acea, the European car manufacturers’ association, by re-emphasising his support for block exemption.
On the future of vehicle distribution, Cantarella, chief executive officer of the Fiat group, said European car makers remained convinced that the current system has improved production and distribution.
He said it had promoted technical and economic progress while benefiting consumers.
“We think the existing dealer system is basically sound and we will strongly oppose any attempt to introduce an experiment in vehicle distribution that could harm the industry and be detrimental to consumers,” he said.
Cantarella also emphasised Acea’s commitment to taking “a major step forward in the field of pedestrian protection”.
