Seat has unveiled a car that runs on either electric power or a conventional petrol engine. Leon Twin Drive Ecomotive prototype made its debut at the SEAT Technical Centre in Martorell, Spain. Seat hopes the concept will move the company towards important developments in hybrid technology. The thinking behind the model is that drivers can use the electric function in urban areas, while switching to the petrol method for longer journeys. Chairman of Seat's board of directors, Francisco García Sanz said: "We want to be leading players at the beginning of a process of development and industrialisation of this type of car." Seat's Twin Drive development plan is to stretch to 2014, focusing on the creation of a entire range of Ecomotive vehicles. At present the carmaker has launched the the new generation Ibiza Ecomotive, the Leon Ecomotive and Alhambra Ecomotive.
