The Warranty Group has added service plans to its web-based CRM platform, The Connection.
Online service plans sales are being trialed with a carmaker and the firm believes it will prove attractive to new and used car retailers.
The move means that carmakers, supermarkets and dealer groups will be able to sell service plans to new and used car customers within their own web sites.
Ian Simpson, sales and marketing director, said: “We continue to see all future service plan sales taking place through the manufacturers and dealers with which we work, so have no plans to introduce online sales where we sell direct to customers.
“However, more and more of our manufacturers and dealers are selling new and used cars through the internet, so it makes sense for us to add an online service plan sales capability that they can easily build into their own web sites,” he said.
The Connection intranet aims to improve productivity and reduce administration for dealers and carmakers.
