Shell has launched a website that refers motorists looking to service their cars to franchised workshops listed on its database.
Users of the Shell Car Servicing Network service enter their car details and location into the website, which then generates a list of local dealers and franchise workshops and instant quotes from which the customer can review and select preferred options.
Individual enquiries made by users are sent to the dealerships who contact users directly to confirm a price and set up an appointment.
The service is free with users paying the price of the vehicle servicing that they agree with the workshop.
The launch of the scheme coincides with the release of new research showing 24% of consumers have cut back on servicing to reduce costs.
The Shell Car Servicing Network only offers main dealer car servicing and MOTs to vehicles 3 years and older that are out of their warranty period.
It does not cover all main dealerships in any given area and consists of participants from Shell’s franchise dealer network.
Carmakers not taking part include Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Bentley.
Johnny Ellis, UK sales manager, Shell Lubricants said: “We believe the launch of The Shell Car Servicing Network will be a welcome lead generation tool for many main dealers and franchised workshops, which might have seen a decline in car servicing bookings recently.”
