Detroit Motor Show highlights

This week’s Detroit Motor Show highlighted the resurgence taking place in the US car market.

Ford showed off the new Fusion (pictured), the next-generation Mondeo for world markets and a competitor to the best selling Toyota Camry in the US.

The Fusion is the first saloon to offer petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains and features new technology, including lane keeping system, adaptive cruise control and active park assist.

It goes on sale in the US this year and is due in Europe in early 2013.

Chrysler unveiled the Dodge Dart, which is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and GM showed the Cadillac ATS.

Electric cars featured strongly at the show. Nissan returned to the show after a three year absence with a concept electric van, a preview to plans for its second electric vehicle following the Leaf. Ford revealed an all-electric version of its Focus

Honda revealed a concept for the next version of its Accord, its best selling model in the US.
