Vauxhall hit by yet more runaway cars

Vauxhall has been stung by fresh claims that it is producing cars with faulty handbrakes and its vehicles have the capacity to roll away when parked.

A report by the BBC's Watchdog programme last night said owners of the latest Corsa D model, which is less than a year old, had reported instances of their car rolling away after being left stationary and with the handbrake on.

Complaints to the programme have now reached triple figures.

Corsa problems

Watchdog reported that Vauxhall was “surprised” to learn of the problems with the new Corsa but was now looking into the problem. The latest blow for Vauxhall comes just months after Which?, the consumer pressure group, reported that owners of Signum and Vectra models also suffered from the same fault. Around 250,000 Signum and Vectra models are being recalled by the manufacturer in order to fit new springs in the handbrake. Vauxhall described the move as a “customer satisfaction programme”. There are no plans to roll out the scheme to Corsa owners. The recent development is a further embarrassment to Vauxhall, which issued a massive 355,000 Corsa recall in December after a problem with the vehicle's braking system was not fixed properly. Despite an initial recall of last-generation Corsas in March 2006 and a further recall of 250,000 models in August 2007, the brake fault still affects newer models.

My corsa 07 plate ro...
My corsa 07 plate rolled today - the 4x4 was ok but my rear bumper is damaged. Vauxhall local dealer are looking at the complaint on Friday but after reading these comments I don't hold much hope for them compensating for the damage. Only glad the kids weren't in the car

Further to the Easyt...
Further to the Easytronic situation, buried away in the manual it mentions moving the selector over to the manual position to engage "1", i.e. first gear. However not fully understanding the clutch mechanism and how it engages/disengages at low speed or stationary I'm not 100% convinced the transmission is locked.

Surely the best solution would be to have a "P" Park setting on the Easytronic selector which would function same as a proper Auto transmission. As it stands, Easytronic seems a cheap and nasty way of providing an automatic transmission which, parking issues aside, can also be jerky as hell at low speeds.

Our Astra twintop released the handbrake itself , with the car in first gear,it still rolled backwards off my drive into a neighbours car.We are just starting the process of informing Vauxhall , insurance etc.Our car is only 3 months old and have had no problems before.Interesting to read on other sites that this is affecting more ASTRA'S. I'am also going to write to WATCHDOG to see if it helps the push for another programme on this.

I had the same problem with my Corsa. Handbrake didn't work very well at the best of times and now the centre button thing has sprung out of it completely so can't put it on at all.

I have a 53 reg Vauxhall Corsa SXI which is an easytronic. I parked it on a slight hill a few days ago only to get a knock on the door an hour and a half later to say my car had just rolled backwards into a fence post.
Several people can witness that my handbrake was on fully and it was parked over an hour before it rolled. I'm gutted.
I only had the car 4 days!

My vauxhall astra twin top rolled backwards with the handbrake full on, hitting a concrete post on its solitary journey. Vauxhall deny that there is a fault with their handbrake system and recommended parking the car in gear and turning the wheels into the kerb. I have lodged a complaint with Vosa who could give no explanation for the car rolling backwards. er..faulty handbrake springs to mind.

Same thing happened ...
Same thing happened to me last Friday evening with my Corsa Club 1.2. Rolled off the driveway and I found the handbrake had sprung off. Dealer (Skurrays of Swindon) say NFF and don't want to know as regards replacing the rather flimsy rear bumper panel which has splintered fibregla*s.

Now having to claim on insurance which means a black mark and 75 excess through no fault of my own.

This model is an Easytronic which is not so easy to leave in gear (no "P" position).

Have written formally to the garage and in truth as I've only had the car 5 weeks, looking for a return/full refund under SOG but not holding out much hope!

I have an 02 plate Corsa Sxi, and over the weekend I left it parked on a flat near a decline with the handbrake securely on. A couple of hours later I went out to my car and as it was gone thought it had been stolen. To my horror and confusion I noticed that it had rolled down the decline and smashed into a column causing extensive damage. Before this incident I have always had issues with the handbrake often having to pull it up with both hands. If this fault lies with the manufacturer then they need to act.
