New air quality limits in forthcoming Euro 5 and 6 emissions standards could see diesel car prices shoot up significantly.
Experts in Europe have warned that prices for oil burners could go up by £600, making them less attractive to buyers. This, in turn, has repercussions for CO2 emissions. SMMT chief executive, Christopher Macgowan said: “The dark side of Euro 5 and 6 limits is the impact on CO2 reduction targets. We should therefore re-affirm the importance of proper impact assessments on all new legislation.”
