A growing number of property developers are targeting dealers who are planning to exit car retailing, according to research conducted by Trevor Jones Chartered Accountants' online Dealermatch service.
“What may become a concern for manufacturers is that interest has been coming from property developers in addition to those already in the motor trade. With the low returns being earned, particularly in the south east, the sums being offered by developers are becoming increasingly attractive. The next six months is likely to prove to be decision time for many dealers,” said partner Michael Jones.
