Decline of UK motor industry

Following Peugeot's announcement that it is to close its Ryton production plant, the Autoindustry website has claimed that almost one-in-three jobs in the UK's motoring industry have been lost over the past decade.
Investment per employee has halved and the trade deficit for motor products rocketed from £5bn in 1997 to £12bn in 2004.
