Dispute over Ryton production costs

One of the industry's leading automotive experts has disputed Peugeot's claim that Ryton was its most costly plant to run.

The car maker has claimed that it costs £270 more to produce each car in the UK compared to France, but Garel Rhys, head of Cardiff University Business School's automotive centre, told The Times that Peugeot was closing Ryton because it was over producing. He said: “While I wouldn't dispute that it is cheaper to produce in Slovakia or Eastern Europe, I don't believe that is the case with France or Spain.”
