Motorists in the dark about hybrids

Research by Honda has shown more than half of British drivers know next to nothing about hybrid vehicles.

The survey of 1,200 motorists revealed widespread ignorance about greener cars. Asked to identify an alternative fuel vehicle, over 80 per cent failed to mention the hybrid. Of the drivers who knew of hybrids, over 40 per cent didn't know it used both petrol and electric power. Some motorists thought it meant two cars welded together or a vehicle made by a combination of manufacturers.
