DCX plans Smart solution
Monday, 27 March 2006
Having abandoned plans to sell its small car unit, DaimlerChrysler is to commit £700m to sustain the business.

The plan involves halting production of its four-door Smart car and focusing solely on the unprofitable minicar business's two-seat version. DCX said the decision would help the division get the support it needed to reach profitability by 2007. Overall, these measures are likely to result in a headcount reduction of 300 employees in the group's Böblingen plant near Stuttgart. The cuts are in administration, sales and research and development.
