Industry concern over Budget car tax increases

The automotive sector has reacted angrily to chancellor Gordon Brown's budget decision to increase road tax on cars that produce higher emissions.
The SMMT said the road tax changes would send a worrying message to consumers and carmakers about the future of motoring taxes. The RMI said it was extremely concerned about the impact of the tax changes as did the Scottish Motor Trade Association. Brown should remember that not all those he has penalised live in Chelsea, SMTA chief executive Douglas Robertson said.
