Profitability levels in UK car dealerships have fallen to an all time low with many sites within the M25 now trading at a loss.
These are the main findings in franchised dealer trading and profitability figures produced by Trevor Jones Chartered Accountants and ASE, the specialist motor trade accountancy firm.
According to the research, based on the detailed analysis of the financial performance of hundreds of dealerships across the country, dealers in London are now trading at an average loss of –0.6 per cent, compared with breakeven in 2004, with the lowest average annual sales per sales person of just 125. On a national level dealers made a profit of just 0.6 per cent on their total sales.
