Increasing the London congestion charge will cause further damage to retail motor sector businesses within the zone, the RMI has claimed.
The trade body said that since the introduction of the fee in February 2003 dealers, repairers and petrol retailers had all seen a decline in earnings. “All these businesses provide a vital service to motorists, and are suffering because of the charge, but if they are forced to relocate outside the zone it will be the consumer who suffers most of all”, RMI chief executive Matthew Carrington said.
