Research by WhatCar? magazine has shown Britons to be paying an average of 10 per cent less for a new car than they were seven years ago.
According to the study, smaller models such as the Ford Ka and Kia Picanto cost almost 19 per cent less due to the new models flooding the market. Off-road 4X4 car prices have also fallen by 13 per cent, while small family cars and people carriers have become 11 per cent cheaper.
However, at the other end of the market, luxury motors including the BMW 7-Series and Lexus LS430 cost 3 per cent more than in 1998.
