Government awaits MG Rover accounting probe

Accounting watchdog the Financial Reporting Council is to present the government with the results of its examination of MG Rover's accounts this week.

The government called for the report after the car maker filed for bankruptcy last month. The FRC indicated that it may have unearthed irregularities that could prompt a fuller investigation by the Department of Trade and Industry. Meanwhile a shortage of petrol engines caused by the collapse of MG Rover's sister company, Powertrain has caused Land Rover to cut supplies of the FreeLander to the USA.
