Chrysler in US production talks with Fiat |

Fiat may use some of Chrysler’s idle North American factories to build vehicles, according to the Financial Times. The Italian carmaker has confirmed is has had talks with Chrysler, and believes the move would help the Detroit-based manufacturer overcome its weak financial position by forging partnerships with other automotive companies. ![]() Fiat has said it is considering assembling the Fiat 500 and an Alfa Romeo model in North America.
Nissan trucks and Volkswagen minivans are also set to be produced by Chrysler in the US and Canada, and the company has been pursuing more alliances in China, Russia, Latin America and India.
Chrysler has said it expected to start selling small cars in Latin America made by China’s Chery Automotive in 2009.
