Jaguar and Land Rover to launch £100,000 cars?

Monday, 21 July 2008
Jaguar and Land Rover are considering plans to move upmarket and launch in the super luxury category.

According to the Financial Times, David Smith, the brands’ chief executive, believes both companies can be taken “a lot further up the market”.

He said: ““Both Jaguar and Land Rover, through the Range Rover brand, should be able to produce very credible products to appeal to people in those markets.” It is believed that the carmakers are considering the move to launch products in the £100,000 bracket - the preserve of only a handful of carmakers, including Bentley and Aston Martin. While there is no timescale until such cars are launched, Jaguar and Land Rover executives believe it is the emerging markets, such as China and Russia, that will provide the largest potential markets.

I disagree with Mr S...
I disagree with Mr Smith, a 100,000 car needn't be a polluting one, luxury and size doesn't have to equate to being polluting. With modern technology, hybrid power etc, this could still be a clean, green car.
The prospect of a Jaguar (or Daimler) rival to Rolls Royce or Bentley is an exciting thought. Look at the XF - if this is indicative of the styling of future Jaguar models, it surely proves that it can be cutting edge and advanced. Aluminium construction could also contribute to a lighter vehicle which will also help with fuel economy. This car is a very exciting possibility.

This is the most rid...
This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard this year. Isnt a fully tooled RR Vogue knocking on that way already? What a great message these semi British brands are sending!! Lets make even more heavily polluting vehicles for the new fat cats in the East! Rock on Jaguar. It wont work anyway. They wont sell enough, and another 2 British brands will get bought by the East and the cars will be produced for 200.(MG Rover). What thay need to do is produce well thought out, cutting edge styled, efficient and affordable cars that will sell 'Worldwide' to the ma*ses. Not just a small market sector. Jaguar need a trendy 2 door coupe like the CLC, and Land Rover just need to throw their drawing boards into the next county and wait for a miracle.
