Sunday Times Top 100 biggest private companies: Automotive industry results

Arnold Clark has been ranked as the eleventh biggest private company in Britain, according to a listing by Deloitte and the Sunday Times.

The Scottish car dealer group received the highest ranking in the motor trade after it reported £2,084m in sales last year and profits of £177m.

The next automotive business on the list was parts maker TI Automotive, which was ranked 25th with sales of £1,395m. Fast-fit chain Kwik-Fit came half way down at 50th with sales of £858m, just ahead of Camden Group Services which generated sales of £809m in 2007 and was placed 56th. The Greenhous Group, which is the tenth largest car dealer in the UK, came in 67th place after recording sales of £703m. Other listed businesses in the car retail sector included luxury car dealer JCT600, which was ranked 90th with sales of £574m, while Listers Group followed shortly after in 92nd with sales of £570m. The highest ranked privately-owned companies on the list were Ineos Group, a chemical manufacturer, Alliance Boots, which runs the pharmacy chain, and the John Lewis partnership.
