Driving cheaper than 30 years ago

The cost of motoring in the UK is lower than it was 30 years ago.

New government figures show that in real terms the cost of owning a car is now 11 per cent cheaper than it was in 1975. The survey took into account the cost of buying a car, maintenance, petrol, tax and insurance. It also found that there are now 24.5m motorists in Britain – 12m more than 1975.
