Balverona, the largest shareholder in HR Owen, has grown its luxury brands down under and is preparing to bring Chinese cars to the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Through its subsidiary, European Automotive Imports, the Australian car retailer grew its domestic and New Zealand Maserati businesses year-on-year by 25 per cent and 50 per cent respectively - a record year for Maserati in both countries.
Like Maserati, Balverona's Ferrari business has also seen substantial growth following the company's takeover of the two brands in 2005. Chinese brandsIn 2007, Ferrari sold 156 cars in Australia and New Zealand - a rise of 42 per cent over 2006.
“We made a commitment to lift customer service for both brands,” said Neville Crichton, governing director for Balverona.
“With our support our dealers have opened, or are preparing to open, extensive new facilities in every Australian state and in New Zealand Maserati now has a full dealership in the South Island.”
Balverona said it would now look to become the first importer to launch a Chinese brand in Australasia.
Negotiations have been underway with Chinese carmakers for 18 months and Balverona said the development of a range of cars to be sold in Australia was now well underway.
