Rover deal in final stages, says Brown

The blueprint for a proposed strategic alliance between MG Rover and Shanghai Automotive will be presented to the Chinese authorities within days.

According to media reports chancellor Gordon Brown, who is currently on a three-day visit to China, said a “full feasibility study” into the venture had been prepared and would be revealed shortly. The press also quoted Brown as claiming that MG Rover would benefit from "flexibility in the tax system" as a means of hastening the deal although government officials previously denied that any cash would be granted to push through the agreement.
