Carcraft has been forced to pull a radio advert following complaints that the announcer whispered the terms and conditions of its car sale, making them inaudible to listeners. Complainants said that not only did sound levels drop towards the end of the advert, the announcer spoke at a higher speed when the terms and conditions of the finance offer were relayed. ![]() This made it increasingly difficult to hear what was being said. ASA rulingThe Advertising Standards Authority ruled that “important terms and conditions” were not clearly audible and as a result the advert could mislead listeners.
The media watchdog ruled that the advert should not be broadcast again in its current form.
Carcraft did not comment on the sound levels of the advert.
Meanwhile, a national press advert for the Suzuki Grand Vitara has also been reported to the ASA.
Headlined "Same CO2 tax band as a Mazda MX5", complainants said the claim was misleading as only one of the Grand Vitara models was in the same CO2 band as the Mazda MX5.
The ASA ruled that the advert was not misleading and could continue to be used.
