The Birmingham NEC has been stripped of the British International Motor Show, ending a 30-year association with the event.
The SMMT, which organises the show, said the 2006 exhibition would instead be hosted at the Excel centre in London's Docklands. The trade association decided to put the event out to tender over concerns about costs for visitors and exhibitors at the 2004 Sunday Times Motor Show Live. Excel's proposal, backed by Single Market Events, beat off competition from the Birmingham NEC and London's Earls Court.
