Honda to launch two new hybrid models
Carmaker also predicts sales rise in 2008

Honda predicts that hybrid cars will account for 10 per cent of its global sales within two years.

The Japanese carmaker plans on bringing two new hybrid models to market alongside the existing Civic to help meet the 2010 target.

The Global Hybrid will be the first car to launch in 2009 followed by a sports hybrid based on the CR-Z concept revealed at this year's Tokyo Motor Show.

Sales rise

Honda said the Global model would focus on making hybrid technology more affordable and would also be the biggest seller with worldwide sales of around 200,000 units.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer has unveiled a bullish sales plan for 2008 that aims to grow worldwide volumes by 6 per cent on 2006 figures.

Despite signs of a global economic slowdown, Honda said it aimed to sell 3.76 million vehicles next year with Europe accounting for an 11 per cent rise on 2007 sales to a record 420,000 units.
