Vauxhall has announced that it is abandoning the Vectra name and its new family car will be called the Insignia.
The next generation model is due to make its debut at the London motor Show next July.  The Vectra name will be axed by Vauxhall The Vectra name has been in use since 1988 when it succeeded the Ascona and has sold 5.5 million units since launch.
Vauxhall plans on building the new Insignia at its plant in Russleheim, Germany and the carmaker claims the new model will be a step up from the outgoing Vectra.
The Insignia is expected to benefit from increased quality, a sleeker look and a sharper driving experience.
