Car production in the UK recorded a fourth successive month of double digit growth in October.
Latest figures from the SMMT show that volumes rose by 31.1 per cent to 152,253 units. Commercial vehicle production also recorded growth, rising by 11.8 per cent to 22,216 units. Revised forecastCombined vehicle production totalled 174,469 units – a year-on-year increase of 28.3 per cent.
The year-to-date is now 26.4 per cent ahead of 2006 at 1.09 million vehicles and the SMMT said the yearly total may now surpass its forecast.
“October marked the fourth successive month of double digit growth in UK car production this year, with a 31.1 per cent rise,” said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive.
“This continued recovery is the result of strong demand for new models coming on stream. With the six month volumes up 12.4 per cent, we may even pass the year end forecast total of 1.525mn units.”
