Porsche presented its first hybrid prototype at the LA Auto Show last week.
The Cayenne Hybrid prototype contains a Full-Parallel-Hybrid System, which will achieve a fuel economy of more than 30 mpg as well as lower emissions.
 Porsche hopes the car will be on sale by 2010 The system features an electric motor and clutch integrated within the drivetrain. Compact layoutPorsche claims that the compact layout ensures greater compatibility with all-wheel drive technology and as a result the car will be lighter than rival models.
The luxury carmaker hopes that the Cayenne Hybrid will be available to customers before the end of this decade.
Porsche also displayed one of its older cars at the Auto Show, the electric-drive Lohner-Porsche.
The Lohner-Porsche was originally launched over a century ago, and Porsche claims it was one of the world's first zero emission vehicles and, accordingly, a forerunner of hybrid drive.
