General Motors and Fiat have ended their stand-off after the US car giant agreed to pay £1.
07bn to terminate the two companies' joint venture agreements. The deal means that GM will not be forced to buy the Italian firm's car manufacturing division under the put option agreed in 2000. According to press reports, the agreement, which follows weeks of wrangling between the two firms, was struck in New York on Saturday, 12 February.
