SMMT appoints new chief executive
Paul Everitt to take on new role next year

The SMMT has appointed Paul Everitt as its new chief executive.

Everitt will join the trade association in his new role from January next year and replaces Christopher Macgowan who is retiring.

He is currently director of Civil Air Transport and Communications at the Society of British Aerospace Companies and previously worked for the SMMT as head of communications.

“Commenting on his appointment Everitt said: “The SMMT has an essential role in creating the conditions for a successful UK automotive industry. I feel privileged to have the opportunity of leading it and serving one of this country's most important industrial sectors.”

Everitt was also deputy director of the British Road Federation and has more than 17 years experience of public policy and media campaigns in the transport sector.
