Nissan apologises over warranty gaff
Carmaker admits it was wrong over block exemption issue

Nissan has admitted flouting block exemption regulations by telling a Micra motorist the warranty for their car had been invalidated because non-Nissan parts had been used during a service.

The Automotive Distribution Federation accused Nissan of misleading the motorist, pointing out that “parts of matching quality” may be used within the warranty period and that the source of the material is immaterial.

Nissan admitted the error on its part, writing to both the motorist and the ADF.

“ADF are correct in the information they have supplied and will take care in the future with the information we are submitting to our customers,” Nissan said.

ADF chief executive Brian Spratt said: “We can't allow dealers and manufacturers to frighten motorists into abandoning their rights to take their vehicles to independent repairers.”

If the nissan parts where of good quailty in the first place they would not be in this postion. Customers have the choice to take there car where they want. Instead of complianing about the compertion get your act together and customers will remain loyal

If Nissan did not manufacture these parts, how on earth can it be taken as read that they are of similar quality?

While it is not necessary to use manufacturers parts to maintain a manufacturers warranty it is neccassary if you want to claim goodwill after the warranty expires. If you have no goodwill to the manufacturer IE dealer servicing, manufacturer parts then you get no goodwill back.
