Although the technology is available company officials will wait for moves from Whitehall that make the petrol alternative more attractive to consumers, claimed GM Europe sales and marketing vice-president and Vauxhall chairman Jonathan Browning. “Government strategy is woefully lacking in a long-term vision and a coherent plan – it is something the UK needs to step up to in the near future. “We've had a stop-start approach to alternative fuels and the contrast couldn't be greater to a market like Sweden, where the government has taken a clear stance, said that ethanol is a key alternative fuel and put in place encouragement for both manufacturers and consumers. “In the UK, we have marginal incentives and E85 vehicles don't even get relief from the congestion charge,” he told Motor Trader.
