Saab gives 9-3 range a restyled front end

Monday, 28 May 2007
Saab has facelifted its BMW 3-Series rivalling 9-3 range of saloons, convertibles and estates.

The General Motors-owned brand has given the car a re-styled front- end which mirrors the facelift carried out on the older 9-5 model, and is claimed to be inspired by the firm's Aero X concept car. Other front-end panel changes include the adoption of a clam shell bonnet design, echoing the look of Saab's much loved 99 and 900 models. The car's sub-structure has also been given a substantial reworking, with all new pressing used forward of the A pillar. New doors have also been fitted, and the changes have necessitated a complete re-tool. Saab has released few specification details, but the structural changes are likely to improve the model's dynamics. There will also be interior and specification upgrades and it is likely buyers will be able to opt for performance diesel and 4x4 versions of the revised car. The range will reach UK showrooms this autumn.
