Vehicle producion rallies
25 May 2007
Vehicle production in the UK rallied last month to produce a 1.6 per cent year-on-year increase.
Total volumes reached 136,954 units, according to the latest SMMT figures, halting several months of decline. Both car production and commercial vehicle production rose last month by 1.6 and 1.4 per cent respectively. Year-to-dateVehicle production for the year-to-date remains down on last year, with volumes sliding by 4.9 per cent. So far this century we have seen UK new car production volumes fluctuate and, in the most recent years, decline year-on-year. However, there are positive signs that things have now stabilised, said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. Although only a modest 1.6 per cent rise, it is the second increase this year and is an indication that we have turned the corner following a lengthy period of disruption. HAVE YOUR SAY
