The new generation model is initially bound for the Japanese market but will eventually be rolled out globally, starting in Europe.

Mazda's executive vice president Robert Graziano said the Mazda 2 had developed into a globally competitive vehicle.

The next stage

“The all-new Mazda2 is the first of Mazda's new generation products to evolve to the next stage,” said Graziano.

“While the current model was intended for the domestic market, the new model has been developed into a globally competitive car.”

Along with production at the main plant in Ujina, Mazda will also begin production of the Mazda 2 at its secondary plant next month.
