Speaking to the Financial Times, Nanjing's UK boss Wang Hongbiao said the company would launch “a very good sportscar” within two years.
The TF, to be built in China and at the former MG-Rover factory in Longbridge, Birmingham, is a modified version of a car launched in 1995.
The new model could permit MG to re-enter America, once its most important market. It also hopes to build cars in the US.
Nanjing, which has a co-operation deal with Fiat, is claiming that it will produce 50,000 cars annually by 2009, including a range of saloons, and according to the FT, intends using Longbridge to make more than one model.
