The first Chinese-built MG sports cars rolled off the production line in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing yesterday (28 March 2007). ![]() Uncovered: New MGs make their debut After years of uncertainty surrounding the future of the sports car brand, Nanjing Automobile unveiled its first new models.
China's oldest carmaker, which acquired the assets of MG Rover following its collapse in 2005, launched the MG TF roadster and the MG 7 saloon at its new £200 million plant.
Nanjing said it plans to building up to 200,000 new cars every year.
Prices for the models are thought to start at between £11,800 - £26,300.
While there are plans to sell the cars worldwide, the majority of sales are likely to be in China as the new car market there is growing at a rate of around 10 million units a year.
The company also plans to build MGs at the Longbridge plant, which will be sold in the European market.
