Car volumes slumped last month
Latest figures from the SMMT show that the year-to-date is now 4.2 per cent behind last year at 239,841 units. Exports continued to provide the majority of production, with cars built for overseas accounting for almost three-quarters of volumes. Commercial vehicle production also suffered as numbers slipped by 4 per cent year-on-year in February but the year-to-date remained 2 per cent ahead.
It comes as no surprise that we have seen a fall, Macgowan
SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan said upheavals in the manufacturing sector meant the decline did not come as a surprise. “With car production ceased at Peugeot and a model changeover at Toyota's facility, it comes as no surprise that we have seen a fall in volume during February,” he said.

“All indications are that the full year forecast is still on course to achieve greater output than last year.”
